International Women’s Day (March 8) celebrates the amazing achievements of women all over the world.

With the heat surrounding the Time’s Up movement against sexual misconduct and bullying in the workplace, the day is arguably more important than ever this year. With the discussion around women’s rights at the forefront of the media and our minds, a day to mark female achievements is relevant AH.

As women, the pressure to excel in our careers, to be good mothers, good partners and good friends, while looking amazing 100% of the time and also staying sane is well, insane!

It can sometimes feel like no choice we make is ever good enough but if ever there’s a time to wave goodbye to unrealistic expectations and irrelevant opinions about our lives, it’s now!

There is nothing more empowering than females supporting each other which is why we’re giving eight famous ladies that inspire us a shout out for IWD. These babes show how you can be talented and successful while flying the flag for females all over the world at the same time…

Meghan Markle

She has been thrust into the limelight in a big way following her engagement to Prince Harry but Meghan Markle had her own thing going on long before her and Hazza were an item. She played Rachel Zane in Suits for more than five years and has also done heaps of charity work too.

As well as being a successful actress, Meghan is also an advocate for gender equality and the empowerment of women with the UN. At just 11 years old she successfully campaigned to get a company to change a national television commercial she viewed as sexist, beginning a long career in advocacy.

With an amazing education and career to boot, Meghan Markle is literally the living contradiction of a princess waiting around for their prince to rescue them!

Dua Lipa

A lot more than just a pretty face, Dua Lipa is currently busy winning awards and breaking a few records for good measure!

She was nominated for five Brit awards making her the new record-holder for the most nominees by a female act. She went on to win two, including Best British Female Artist.

As she accepted one of her awards Dua said: “I also want to thank every single female who has been on this stage before me who has given every girl in the music and every girl in society something to aspire to and be inspired by. Here’s to more women on these stages, more women taking home awards and women taking over the world.”

Her modern day anthem New Rules has already reached over a billion views on YouTube and she is fast becoming one of the most successful female artists around at the moment at just 22 years old…

Rihanna

She only turned 30 the other day but Bad Gal Ri Ri has been doing it for the girls for years. From shutting down reporters who ask about her ‘boyfriends’ to completely putting two fingers up to anyone who criticises her weight, Ri does not mess around.

Recently her weight has been the subject of much discussion and Ri has dealt with any criticism like a boss. Anyone with working eyes can see that she looks absolutely incredible but the media can be cruel AH, justifiably or not.

She’s also not scared to use her influence for the good of girls (and boys!) all over the world. She is the global ambassador for the Global Partnership of Education which ensures that children in the world’s poorest countries can get a quality education.

Ri has been a chart-topping singer since she was 17 and is also a super successful entrepreneur, with her latest venture being Fenty Beauty. When it comes to flying the flag for girl power, Rihanna is definitely perfectly good at it!

Margot Robbie

Oscar nominee Margot is another one with talent in abundance. She’s currently nominated for the Actress in a Leading Role award for her part in I,Tonya, which she also produced. She has also received Best Actress nominations at the Golden Globe, SAG, and BAFTA Award ceremonies for the role.

As well as being a hugely successful actress who has starred in films such as The Wolf of Wall Street and Suicde Squad, Margot also has her own production company called LuckyChap Entertainment.

In 2017, Time magazine named her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world and Forbes also featured her in their 30 Under 30 list. Oh, did we not mention that this high achiever is only 27?!

Little Mix

They made history by being the first band to win the X Factor and Little Mix have also broken loads of other records too. The biggest girl band in the world have sold more than 39 million records worldwide and are currently busy preparing for another.

The band are known for really empowering their fans and educating them about the concept of ‘doing it for girls’. Perrie, Leigh-Anne, Jade and Jesy are also constantly touring and are among the hardest working ladies in showbiz. We guess it must be in their DNA…
