We girls have come a long way since corsets and petticoats, but there’s still plenty of pressure on us to have it all. When you’re juggling work, friends, hobbies and relationships, it’s important to remind yourself that you’re awesome once in a while.
So whether you’ve had a tough day at work, you’ve not been to the gym for a bit too long, or you had an amazeballs first date and they didn’t text back – whatever is getting you down right now, Jane is here to spread a little love!
To remind ourselves of what girls can do, we’ve created our very own girl crush list. These ladies are super-stylish, super-talented and have a host of other accomplishments under their belts to boot. We don’t know how they do it, but these girls are truly inspirational!
Who run the world?
Karlie Kloss is a 6ft tall, all-American glamazon and the sweet-heart of the fashion industry! At just 24 years old the supermodel has already graced countless catwalks – including in her legendary role as a Victoria’s Secret Angel – and a library of glossy magazine covers. Karlie is currently the face of Dior, Topshop and Taylor Swift’s girl squad (not a real job, but still a position we’d love to be in).
Karlie does it all: as if being the third highest earning supermodel of 2016 wasn’t enough of an achievement, her impressive CV also boasts entrepreneurial Kookie creator, philanthropist, coder, and YouTube star. Not to mention Karlie’s taking classes at university in New York. We’re exhausted just thinking about her schedule!
What we really love about Karlie is that’s she’s all about empowering women and girls. The model started a project called Kode with Karlie to encourage females to get into coding and technology and often talks openly about her life on her YouTube channel Klossy. Karlie discusses everything from finding gym motivation to feeling shy and insecure on her YouTube channel, all in the name of Girl Power.
Karlie’s personal style is ladylike and reserved; she’s often papped strolling around New York in a tea dress and flats, or jeans and blazer. The model is our chic, elegant style inspo’.
Emma Watson – what a dream babe! This girl is a self-made multi-millionaire after winning our hearts as the – sweetly – bossy genius Hermione Granger, in the Harry Potter film series. She even won multiple child actor awards.
You’d think that being a child star would keep you pretty busy, but Emma has proved herself to be a total brainiac too. While filming, Emma passed her school exams with flying colours and has since bagged herself a bachelor’s degree in English literature. She has said herself that she will never have to work for money again and she went to Uni purely for the love of education! Impressive huh?
As well as being absolutely gorgeous, Emma isn’t a stranger to putting her brains to good use and she has opened lots of eyes as the face of HeforShe and a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. Add to that her style-icon status, her collaboration with People Tree to create a Fair Trade clothing brand and her lovely personality – we’re sold!
Go Emma for doing ladies proud all over the world.
Is there anyone who doesn’t know Rihanna? She doesn’t even need a second name for crying out loud! Not only is this goddess a chart-topping, award-winning singer and one of the best-selling artists of all time, but she maintains a reputation as a sex symbol and fashionista without losing her individuality or conforming to the bland pop star formula.
Rhi Rhi is known for constantly reinventing her look, and thanks to her edgy style she has been able to produce multiple fashion lines and work as a creative director too. She’s admitted that fashion has become about taking risks for her and we’d say that she’s become really, really good at that in recent years. Are we right ladies?!
If these accomplishments weren’t enough, Rihanna has helped to raise millions of pounds for charity and she has her own Believe Foundation which supports ill children and their families. She also spoke out to the world after she was physically assaulted by Chris Brown, showing other domestic abuse victims that it’s ok to speak up.
To quote one of our favourite girl-power movies, ‘snaps for Rihanna!’
You might know Jessica Alba as a beaut and award-winning actress, but did you know that she does tonnes of charity work too? She has worked with Habitat for Humanity, the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children and many more and she is also an ambassador for 1Goal which provides education to African children.
Jessica is outspoken when it comes to her political opinions and has lobbied in support of the Safe Chemicals act. She even co-founded the Honest Company in 2012 which sells non-toxic household products and has a net worth of over $1.5 billion.
Whoever said women can’t have it all clearly hasn’t heard of Jessica. With her loving husband and gorgeous kids by her side, this amazing woman has nailed it from every angle.
It probably comes as no surprise that we love Kate and Wills, because who doesn’t? They’re charming, sweet and they look adorable together. But Kate has even more going for her than meets the eye.
Obviously there’s certain clothing rules when you’re a royal, but as well as absolutely rocking her sophisticated, demure style, Kate has been involved in plenty of charity work. Before their wedding, Kate and Wills set up a gift fund whereby guests could donate money to one of 26 charities rather than giving them a gift. Sweet right? We can’t say that we wouldn’t have been tempted by a solid gold tea set or something else their guests might have offered though…
Kate also sponsors lots of charities from East Anglia Children’s Hospice and Action on Addiction to donation-run organisations like the National History Museum and the National Portrait Gallery.
