Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock – or binging a series on Netflix for days with your phone switched off – you’ll have at least heard of the goings on at the Oscars this year. From the Best Picture mix-up to the jaw-dropping clothes, we can’t think of another event where we would rather have been a fly-on-the-wall.

If you were hiding, or you just CBA to watch the whole show back to see the best – and worst – dressed, then we’ve got you covered. Read on for Jane’s Oscars recap!

RED CARPET GOLD

Viola Davis

Somebody saw New York Fashion Week. Academy Award winner Viola Davis was ticking all of our style boxes in this custom Armani Privé gown. An AW17 shade of pillar-box red, SS17 collar detailing and draped shoulder design – Viola took the Oscar for best-dressed in our book. She looked stunning.

Emma Stone

Emma Stone went full-on flapper for the 89th Academy Awards and we can’t believe how far she’s come since her Superbad days. This Givenchy number, with its layers of fringing and champagne colouring had her looking like a sexier version of the Oscar she won – in a good way. After she took home the award for Best Actress she was just oozing glamour.

Leslie Mann & Kate Bosworth

Leslie Mann and Kate Bosworth were representing every girl with a Disney Princess fantasy on the red carpet this year. Leslie just blew our minds in Zac Posen’s sunny, fairytale ruffles and Kate looked breath-taking in this muted, green tulle gown. We have no (more) words.

Emma Roberts

Julia Roberts’ niece looked every inch the classic Hollywood starlet in a vintage, monochrome Armani Privé evening dress. With sequin and lace detail, layered skirts, 1920s waves and that uber-plunging neckline, we’ve got a girl crush in the making.

NOT FOR US

You know us – we don’t like to dwell on the negatives, so we’ll just say that a couple of celeb outfits weren’t really our cup of tea. And we’ll leave it at that.

OUR DREAM DATE

Ryan Gosling

Honestly, he’s had mixed reviews on this look but for us, the Gosling can do no wrong. We love his classic black Gucci suit; the velvet lapels and vintage, ruffled shirt paired with a bow-tie. People can say it looks like he’s heading to the prom all they like – we’d be his date any day!

WEIRDEST MOMENTS

Nicole Kidman’s Clapping Skills

It turns out that when you’re an award-winning, babelicious actor you can go through your entire life without ever learning how to clap in a conventional way. Why do her fingers look so long? We know she is one of the biggest babes on the planet, so we’d have noticed if they were super-long in real life right?

Does it remind you of anyone? *cough* the Grinch *cough*

Anyway, we love finding out that A-listers have their own weird quirks just like we do. You do YOU Nicole.

That Best Picture Cringefest

So, here’s the short version: Hollywood legends Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were onstage to present the Best Picture award. After around 10 to 20 seconds of Warren looking confusedly at the card, Faye said “you’re impossible” and the whole audience were laughing at the gag and having a great time. Mr B showed Dunaway the card and she announced ‘La La Land’ as the winner.

It became clear though – after 3 producers had given speeches which are beyond cringey to watch now – that Warren had the wrong envelope, the wrong winner had been announced, and ‘Moonlight’ was actually voted Best Picture. WE DIE. WE JUST DIE.
